revolutionary transformation
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflectthe Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”. [2 Corinthians 3:18]
- None of us is perfect! One of the amazing truths of being a Christian is that Jesus came not to make us feel bad because he was perfect, but to accept us as we are - warts and all! And, what’s more, God the Father sees us as perfect through Jesus, and what he accomplished on the cross. So, even though we will continue in this life to mess up every now and then, God is transforming us by the power of his Holy Spirit, getting us ready to live the life of eternity; the place where finally we’ll be free from sin.
- How do we live then? Well, in the light of this truth, we have to live in the confidence that by faith in Jesus, we all reflect God’s glory as we live out this Hope. We now live in the freedom of following Jesus, and are no longer slaves to sin. We might not think we reflect God, but all we have to do is look in a mirror and see that we truly are children of God; children being transformed into his likeness.
- You live now - as Paul says above - with unveiled faces. What does that mean? Well, it’s a reference to Moses in the book of Exodus, when Moses went down the mountain after meeting God at the summit, with a veil over his face, because he didn’t want the people of Israel to see the reflected glory of God fade.
- However, since the death and resurrection of Jesus, it’s all changed! We now live in the new promise, the new order of things, where God’s glory doesn’t ever fade, but lives inside each of us in the person of the Holy Spirit, transforming our lives inside out, so that we can take the message of Hope to others. We radiate God to others!
- So, as Revolutionaries of Hope, remember that you’re in a permanent state of change. You might not feel that God is doing stuff in your life as you take Hope to others. You may feel it’s all about them and nothing about you. Perhaps you feel like you’re giving out loads trying to organize social action projects or just trying to serve and love people in your own day-to-day existence. However, God is permanently at work in us. We are his very own masterpieces, and he won’t stop sculpting, moulding and shaping our lives until the day we die when we at last go to be with and resemble his perfect Son, Jesus.
