Taking Hope To Those We Often Forget

“For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people's love and concern for each other.” [Millard Fuller - founder and former president of Habitat for Humanity International]

•    So many people need help at Christmas in our communities. Sometimes we just don’t see this need because it’s hidden from view or - to be honest - we get caught up in our own preparations for Christmas...the presents, the parties, the family visits.

•    Who do you know who’s in need this Christmas? Is there anyone in your church, your town or down your street who might need help doing some present shopping or present wrapping? Is there someone elderly who might appreciate a gift of some kind. Maybe you’re good at making cakes or puddings? Could you make them a Christmas cake or take round something festive?

•    Why not get together with your mates and visit the local residential care home and ask the wardens there if you can do something for the residents this Christmas. You and your group could plan to come back and present a topic, perform some songs or even cook for the residents there.

•    Perhaps you could prepare over the next weeks to put on a drama for the residents about the real message of Christmas. Then, on the date you’re invited in, bring some gifts too. It doesn’t have to cost much - it’s just a simple extra touch to show God’s love.

•    Part of being a Revolutionary is putting others first. Let’s learn how to serve them this Christmas and put our own interests last. Make this a Christmas where you really give from the heart, and of your time, talent and resources.
