Hope Revolution in 2009

It’s a new year, but what has changed?

The media would have us believe everything is going wrong. The economy is going down the toilet, wars continue to rage in many countries, people are still starving and dying of curable diseases, young people are getting involved in crime, children are being subjected to abuse of all kinds…

All these problems have been around since Biblical times so what is so different about 2009? The answer is nothing…yet.

If you have turned on your TV or picked up a newspaper in the last month you can’t have missed what’s going on in America. Even in such an unstable economic climate America seems to have the hope of a brighter future, because of a man called Barack Obama. Although his success is a great testament to how far America has come they seem to be pinning all their hope for world peace on this man. They see him as ‘the chosen one’ when actually he’s just a man who has just taken on one of the hardest jobs in the world. I wonder how long it will be before he makes a small error and the press turn against him.

You see, we know that what people are looking for in these times is someone who can change their situation dramatically, someone who can take all this mess and turn it into something beautiful. And we also know this person is not Barack Obama, it’s Jesus.

Now armed with this knowledge what are we going to do? Are we going to leave Hope back in 08? No!

There is a point in the bible in Mark 4:35 where Jesus says “Let us go over to the other side.” What Jesus is talking about here is him and his disciples leaving the place where they have been comfortably preaching and ministering and going across the lake to the as yet un-reached people. A place where all the problems we talk about today were happening. If you read Mark 5 you’ll see that this was not an easy mission for Jesus and his followers, but it did start to bring about a change in the area.

So this is the first major challenge for 2009, why not take what we have experienced in the last year and use it to bring a message of hope that people are literally crying out for to those places that are so far unreached.

Come on Hope Revolutionaries, let’s go over to the other side!
