PUSH

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Romans 12 v 12

With so many issues in the world it can be hard to feel like you can make any difference.

When I was younger I had a bracelet in the style of the ‘What Would Jesus Do?’ style that had the letters P.U.S.H. on it. This stood for ‘Pray Until Something Happens’. Sometimes, situations need God’s people not just to pray, but to pray until something happens.

We all get concerned about images on the news of other countries who are experiencing disasters or conflict, but often our prayers for them are confined to one or two sentences on a Sunday morning in church.

Last week we saw the celebrations in Germany commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. I was only six years old in 1989 but I have vivid memories of not just the wall coming down, but the time leading up to it when so many people were praying for freedom to come to East Germany. I knew people who faithfully prayed for years before the wall came down, so maybe we need to faithfully pray that other wall and barriers in the world today come down.

Arrange an evening or a lunchtime this week where you can just meet up with some friends and pray about a specific country or world issue for the whole time. Ask God’s spirit to move in that situation and bring his peace to that area. Make this a weekly meeting and keep meeting and praying until something happens
