What does Christmas mean to you?

We would like to hear you thoughts on what Christmas means to you. Please add your ideas a the bottom of this page.

Here's one from Naomi Allen from Kent to start you off:

For me the Christmas story is all about being humble - being humble: like the opposite of being really arrogant and thinking you're amazing, more like realising you can't do things on your own, need help, aren't perfect, doing things for others.

If we look at Jesus, he was the son of God! He deserved to be born in a Palace, to have servants waiting on him day and night, he deserved a massive proclamation about his royal birth. However he was born in a dirty stable, wrapped in an old rag, with hardly anyone knowing about it. That is humility.

At Christmas I am always challenged, who do i do things for? Do i do things for others, or for myself? For me Christmas is a big family affair; it's not often that we all get together so it's special when we do. I love the fact that at this one time of the year we can spend time together being nice and genuinely enjoying each other.

It's a chance to be able to help out more, help my parents tidy the house, help my mum with the cooking, help my dad with the decorations, help my grandad park the car, help my brother complete the next level of his new game. Being humble is putting others before yourself and seeing their need as being greater - if Jesus did it, maybe we should all give it a go!

So What does it all mean to you?

For me, christmas is about love. its about loving each other, loving god, and gods love for us by sending Jesus to earth. Its all about gods love for us. How jesus left the glory of heaven to live amongst sinners. and how god has a perfect plan. At christmas i get a reality check. its about coming away from the world, and submitting yourself to god.

to me, Christmas is about love and remembering that Our Lord Jesus Christ came and died for us! its about reflecting how important and how we have lived the past year according to Jesus' teachings.

As with many people, Christmas is a very family orientated time; this is of course fantastic in so many ways, yet it is also challenging - several members of my family, including my dad, aunt, uncle and granddad are indifferent to God.

I always feel that I should work harder to bring attention to the true meaning of our celebrations but so far I have lacked the courage to do this efficiently for fear of ruining the happy, family atmosphere; a stupid reason, I know, for nothing can compare to the joy that Christ brings, but it makes me pause long enough to lose impetus.

I pray that next year I will listen to the words God is giving me and use them to their full effect.
