BOGOF!
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "
Acts 20:35
I was walking around a supermarket a couple of days ago. I noticed that all the ends of the isles had special offers on them. Most of these offers were ‘BOGOF’ or Buy One Get One Free’ offers.
I began to remember an article that I read a while ago about the amount of food we throw away each year because it has gone out of date before we had a chance to eat it. I remember feeling rubbish as I recalled all the perfectly good food that I have wasted over the years and all those people that I had met in Ghana a year or so before that had no food at all.
I then had an idea, if the supermarkets want to give away all this free food why don’t we use that to help others.
My wife was looking at two bucket sized tubs of butter which were on a BOGOF offer, she said ‘that’s a good offer, but we wont use that amount of butter’, I said ‘why don’t we buy it anyway and give it to someone else?
If we all chose to buy BOGOF offers where ever we could we would be able to build up a food store in no time at all which could then be used to support those in our communities that are struggling to buy food them selves.
The worst thing about our culture today is our consumerist approach to everything. We waste so much money on things we never use and throw away. So why not talk to you parents and change the way you shop. Don’t think ‘how can I get the best deal for myself’, instead think ‘how can I get the most food for my community for my money?’
